a scatterbrained post from a guy who took two midterms today

Yeah so forewarning this is gonna be a very like, scatterbrained collection of things I wanna bring up, probably zero flow, but I’m still gonna send it, so let’s do this.

I really appreciated in the preface the story he shared about that monastery that has been sacked and burned down several times. It really made the reality so clear to me simply how persecuted and hated early Christians were. That belief in Jesus was not a societal norm as it would become in the future, yet which is starting already now to fade away. It paints the suffering Christians dealt with for centuries very clearly in my mind. And in some areas still deal with.

I find it wildly interesting that he wrote this letter to the church as a whole, like not to the church at Corinth, though it obviously includes them, but to all who call Jesus their Lord. This being the only letter he did so and being the only letter he wrote the majority of in the style of the Hebrew Bible. Which thankfully he addresses several pages later to my relief.

So when he addresses that Paul was writing concerning issues they admitted to him and ones they tried to hide, I thought that sooooo relates to how there are things we try to hide from our friends and ultimately God, yet eventually they find out/God already knowing, cause He's God. And how no matter what we do God will address it to us and shed light on the issue we have. No matter how dark it is and how much we try to hide it.

Also like, when he was talking about the parallelisms I was pretty lost not gonna lie, then when he broke it down with Psalm 23 and I could more visualize it I was so stoked (soul stoked) cause like, it just shows how wildly deep the writings are and why studies like this alongside the Word are important. I would have never made a connection like that. It increases my awe of the Word. And creates a drive/fire for me to want to dive in more. I have seen in my life these last couple months a lessened drive to dig in the word, especially than when I first started believing three years ago, getting caught up in thinking there are things you can substitute the Word with. Listening to worship music is great, listening to sermons, reading books like these are cool, but it’s nothing compared to opening up the Bible and digging deep.
